Campus Retention

Unifying Our Campus & Celebrating Diversity

  • Empower ethnic & identity orgs across campus with various workshops, scholarship opportunities, & events celebrating culture and diversity on our campus.

  • Maintain safe spaces on campus for ethnic & identity orgs to explore discussions of our campus climate and how to empower and support each other through uncertain times.

  • Be more critical of our campus administration in response to racially motivated violence on our campus.

  • Advocate for more funding for our ethnic resource centers.

  • Explore ways to decolonize UCSC campus through language correction and removal of landmarks tied to indigenous oppression.

  • Hold workshops for students who have experienced trauma, pain, and anxiety from the COVID-19 pandemic and how we as a community can collectively support each other through recovery.

  • Combat ableism on our campus through increased funding for the DRC, CAPS, & CARE, more disability service vans, and new campus jobs for students with disability that can work from home.

  • Push for a more inclusive and up to date career center employment system in an effort to employ more students on campus.

  • Supporting Measure 74 (45)

    • Reasons for Endorsement:

    • As an Environmental Studies Major, it would not make sense for me to not endorse this measure. Environmental Sustainability is part of why I'm an ENVS major in the first place.

    • The measure provides undergraduate students paid on-campus jobs to support the advancement of UCSC's Sustainability Plan.

    • Measure 74 (45) funds the annual Sustainability & Social Justice Inter-Organizational Retreat, allowing for UCSC to be a leader in Sustainability across the UC system

Student Safety

Increase Protections for Vulnerable Communities

  • Explore ways to protect and support black, latinx, and indigenous students in a racially charged campus climate.

  • Pressure administration to decrease police presence during strikes.

  • Workshops on knowing your rights & resources during strikes.

  • Increase presence of Office of Emergency Services on Campus

  • Supply students with emergency kits (flashlights, first aid, etc).

  • Create Emergency Operations Center ran by OES and Students.

  • Hold workshops on how folx from marginalized communities are disproportionately affected by natural, man-made, and technological disasters economically and socially and how to overcome this through solidarity and resources.

Administration Accessibility

Transparency and Advocacy

  • Continue pushing for more POC & LGBTQ+ staff on our campus, especially within campus administration.

  • Advocate for more financial accessibility for undocu-students & homeless folx.

  • Offer the SUA as a two-unit course that can get up to 25 non-affiliated students involved with the space.

  • Increase the frequency of town halls and tabling events of the Student Union Assembly to provide opportunities of involvement for folx such as executive officer internships.

  • Increased social media presence of the SUA space to keep folx up to date on current resolutions, bylaws, events, and journeys our executive officers are going through to best represent and advocate for folx on campus.

    • Example: Create executive officer mailing lists (a form of a report back) that can keep folx up to date on meetings, events, and thoughts on current events occurring on our campus.
